Decentralized Energy Getting Hotter With Stirling Engines
Wall Street Journal this morning (2-3-2015) had an interesting article on the latest threat to the US Power grid - Energy-Conserving Americans. Since 2004 residential electricity prices have jumped 39%. Yet, retail sales to homes and businesses are still less than they were in 2007. Customers are embracing "energy saving gizmos" and solar panels pushing down the demand for grid power. "NRG Energy is tinkering with prototype of stove-sized machines that make electricity from natural gas" ie Stirling engines. "Something the company says is likely to appeal to the roughly 50% of US homes served by gas" The...

Building Engines As Fast As We Can !
We're going as fast as we can in building our engines. We do the majority of fabrication down at Tech Shop and then bring them back to the garage for assembly and test. This one is just about ready for testing - then shipping

Solar Front End Design for Volo One Engine
We've completed the initial design concept for the Solar Front End of the Volo One Engine. The design focuses on improving solar energy capture by combining the engine with photovoltaic solar panels. The design is comprised of a tracking parabolic trough, lined with photovoltaic solar panels with the heat engine at the trough's focal point. The solar panels are coated with a solar film so that visible light passes through to the photovoltaic cells and longer wavelength light energy gets reflected to the engine. Here is a short video that takes you through the design. This is just...

Sefton Motors @ Maker Faire Detroit 2014
We had a nice weekend at the Detroit Maker Faire - lots of interest in the engine. The most popular topic was the solar front end for the engine. It might of been because it was 80 degrees of hot sun on top of black asphalt !Saw and visited with some of our backers and got lots of great input and interest on the engine. Provided us some additional motivation to get more power, production volume and international reach. Thanks for all the support.Tim

Sefton Motors Releases The Volo One Heat Engine - Press Release
Sefton Motors announced the release of the Volo One Heat Engine designed for electrical generation. The engine runs off of heat and uses any type of fuel to create the heat needed to operate. Fuel sources include wood, natural gas, propane, solar, bio mass or waste heat. Bloomfield Hills, MI May 15, 2014 – Sefton Motors announced the release of their Volo One Engine. The Volo One Engine is an engine that runs off of heat, and is designed to produce electricity for residential backup or off grid applications. “Today the dependence upon our utility infrastructure to provide...

The History of the Volo One Engine
Some folks have been asking us where did the Volo One come from. To find out more about the history of our engine development - take a look at our engine video timeline at: Or our development blog at: volodesigns-sterlingproject.blogspot.com You can see how the engine has progressed from a hand held prototype to its current incarnation.

The Volo One Engine Is Available For Purchase!
The Volo One Engine is now available for purchase! After 2 years of development we are ready to move into the production phase. The Volo One Engine runs off of heat, when there is a temperature difference (roughly 400 F) from the cold end of the engine to the hot end of the engine. For example, you could put the head of the engine in a bonfire and it will run (not that you'd want to put into a bonfire). The Volo One Engine is not a steam engine. The Volo One Engine runs with low pressures and relatively low...
