Decentralized Energy Getting Hotter With Stirling Engines
Wall Street Journal this morning (2-3-2015) had an interesting article on the latest threat to the US Power grid - Energy-Conserving Americans. Since 2004 residential electricity prices have jumped 39%. Yet, retail sales to homes and businesses are still less than they were in 2007. Customers are embracing "energy saving gizmos" and solar panels pushing down the demand for grid power. "NRG Energy is tinkering with prototype of stove-sized machines that make electricity from natural gas" ie Stirling engines. "Something the company says is likely to appeal to the roughly 50% of US homes served by gas" The...

Solar Front End Design for Volo One Engine
We've completed the initial design concept for the Solar Front End of the Volo One Engine. The design focuses on improving solar energy capture by combining the engine with photovoltaic solar panels. The design is comprised of a tracking parabolic trough, lined with photovoltaic solar panels with the heat engine at the trough's focal point. The solar panels are coated with a solar film so that visible light passes through to the photovoltaic cells and longer wavelength light energy gets reflected to the engine. Here is a short video that takes you through the design. This is just...

Sefton Motors @ Maker Faire Detroit 2014
We had a nice weekend at the Detroit Maker Faire - lots of interest in the engine. The most popular topic was the solar front end for the engine. It might of been because it was 80 degrees of hot sun on top of black asphalt !Saw and visited with some of our backers and got lots of great input and interest on the engine. Provided us some additional motivation to get more power, production volume and international reach. Thanks for all the support.Tim
